AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA

AUTHORSHIP CRITERIA AND AUTHOR CONTRIBUTIONS POLICY

JURNAL KEPERAWATAN BUNDA DELIMA (JKBD)

1. General Statement

Jurnal Keperawatan Bunda Delima (JKBD), published by Akademi Keperawatan Bunda Delima, is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical authorship in scholarly publishing.

The journal recognizes that authorship represents both intellectual contribution and responsibility for the accuracy, originality, reliability, and integrity of published research.

JKBD adopts authorship principles consistent with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

This policy aims to ensure that authorship is appropriately assigned to individuals who have made substantial intellectual contributions to research in nursing, healthcare, and related health sciences.

2. Authorship Criteria

All individuals listed as authors of manuscripts submitted to JKBD must fulfill all four authorship criteria established by the ICMJE.

Criterion 1: Substantial Intellectual Contribution

Authors must have made substantial contributions to at least one of the following activities:

  • Conception or design of the research.

  • Acquisition of research data.

  • Analysis of research data.

  • Interpretation of research findings.

Criterion 2: Manuscript Preparation and Critical Review

Authors must have participated in drafting the manuscript or critically reviewing it for important intellectual content.

Criterion 3: Final Approval

Authors must approve the final version of the manuscript intended for publication.

Criterion 4: Accountability

Authors must agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work and ensure that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the research are appropriately investigated and resolved.

All four criteria must be satisfied to qualify for authorship. Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, where appropriate.

3. Author Responsibilities

All authors submitting manuscripts to JKBD are responsible for maintaining ethical standards throughout the research and publication process.

Authors must:

  1. Ensure that the submitted manuscript represents original scholarly work.

  2. Provide accurate and reliable research data and findings.

  3. Properly acknowledge all relevant sources and previous research.

  4. Avoid plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, and other forms of research misconduct.

  5. Ensure that all listed authors meet the established authorship criteria.

  6. Review and approve the manuscript before submission and publication.

  7. Disclose relevant financial and non-financial conflicts of interest.

  8. Disclose research funding and institutional support.

  9. Comply with applicable ethical requirements for research involving human participants or animals.

  10. Cooperate with editorial inquiries regarding the research and publication.

Authors must promptly inform the editorial office if significant errors or inaccuracies are identified in a submitted or published manuscript.

4. Author Contributions

JKBD encourages transparent disclosure of the contributions made by each author to the research and manuscript preparation.

Author contributions may be described using the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), which includes the following categories:

  1. Conceptualization: Development of research ideas, objectives, and overall study design.

  2. Methodology: Development or design of research methods and procedures.

  3. Software: Development, implementation, or use of software for research purposes.

  4. Validation: Verification of research methods, results, or analytical processes.

  5. Formal Analysis: Application of statistical, mathematical, or other analytical techniques.

  6. Investigation: Conducting experiments, collecting data, or performing research activities.

  7. Resources: Provision of research materials, equipment, participants, or other resources.

  8. Data Curation: Organization, management, documentation, and maintenance of research data.

  9. Writing – Original Draft: Preparation of the initial manuscript.

  10. Writing – Review and Editing: Critical review, revision, and improvement of the manuscript.

  11. Visualization: Preparation of tables, figures, graphs, and other visual representations.

  12. Supervision: Oversight and guidance of research activities.

  13. Project Administration: Management and coordination of research activities.

  14. Funding Acquisition: Acquisition of financial support for the research.

A contribution statement should accurately reflect each author's involvement.

Participation in a CRediT role does not automatically qualify an individual for authorship unless all four ICMJE authorship criteria are fulfilled.

5. Corresponding Author Responsibilities

The corresponding author serves as the primary contact between the authors and the JKBD editorial office during manuscript submission, peer review, publication, and post-publication communication.

The corresponding author is responsible for:

  1. Ensuring that all listed authors meet the authorship criteria.

  2. Confirming that all authors have approved the submitted manuscript.

  3. Communicating with the editorial team throughout the publication process.

  4. Coordinating responses to reviewers' comments and editorial requests.

  5. Ensuring the submission of required ethical approval, informed consent, and conflict-of-interest information.

  6. Confirming the accuracy of author names, affiliations, and contact information.

  7. Informing all co-authors of significant editorial decisions.

  8. Responding to reasonable inquiries regarding the research after publication.

  9. Cooperating with investigations of potential errors or research integrity concerns.

The corresponding author must ensure that all relevant information is communicated accurately and promptly.

6. Authorship Order

The order of authors must be determined collectively by the authors based on their contributions and mutual agreement.

JKBD does not prescribe a specific authorship order but requires that:

  1. All authors agree on the sequence of names before manuscript submission.

  2. Authorship order reflects a transparent agreement among the contributors.

  3. All individuals who qualify for authorship are appropriately included.

  4. Individuals who do not meet the authorship criteria are not included solely because of their academic position, institutional authority, or professional relationship.

  5. Changes to authorship order after submission are supported by a clear explanation and written agreement from all authors.

The editorial team may request clarification regarding authorship arrangements when necessary.

7. Changes in Authorship

Any request to add, remove, or rearrange authors after manuscript submission must be submitted to the JKBD editorial office for consideration.

Such requests must include:

  1. A clear explanation of the proposed change.

  2. The reason for adding, removing, or rearranging authors.

  3. Written agreement from all existing authors.

  4. Written consent from any author being added or removed.

  5. An updated author contribution statement, where applicable.

Changes in authorship require editorial approval.

If an authorship change is approved after publication, JKBD may issue a formal correction notice to maintain the accuracy and transparency of the scholarly record.

8. Acknowledgment of Non-Author Contributors

Individuals who contribute to the research but do not fulfill all four authorship criteria should be acknowledged rather than listed as authors.

Examples of contributions that do not independently qualify an individual for authorship include:

  1. Providing financial support.

  2. Offering general administrative assistance.

  3. Providing routine technical assistance.

  4. Conducting language editing or proofreading.

  5. Providing general institutional supervision.

  6. Assisting with logistical arrangements.

  7. Providing access to research facilities or equipment.

The Acknowledgments section should clearly describe the contributions of relevant individuals or organizations.

Authors should obtain permission from individuals before identifying them in the Acknowledgments section.

9. Unacceptable Authorship Practices

JKBD does not accept unethical authorship practices that misrepresent individuals' contributions to scholarly research.

Prohibited practices include:

Gift Authorship

Including individuals as authors because of personal relationships, professional courtesy, or academic status without sufficient intellectual contribution.

Guest Authorship

Listing individuals primarily to increase the perceived credibility, prestige, or acceptance prospects of a manuscript.

Ghost Authorship

Failing to disclose individuals who have made substantial contributions that qualify them for authorship.

Coercive Authorship

Including individuals as authors because of pressure, institutional authority, or other inappropriate influence.

Purchased or Fraudulent Authorship

Offering, selling, purchasing, or misrepresenting authorship positions without genuine intellectual contribution.

The editorial team may request supporting information or refer unresolved authorship concerns to the relevant institutions in accordance with established publication ethics procedures.

10. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence systems, including generative AI tools and large language models, cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts submitted to JKBD.

AI systems cannot fulfill the accountability, responsibility, and ethical obligations required for scholarly authorship.

Authors who use AI-assisted technologies during manuscript preparation or research must disclose their use when relevant, in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policy.

Disclosure should explain how the technology was used, particularly when it contributes to manuscript preparation, data processing, analysis, or the generation of research-related materials.

Human authors remain fully responsible for:

  1. The accuracy and reliability of AI-assisted content.

  2. The originality of the submitted manuscript.

  3. The validity of references and citations.

  4. The integrity of research data and findings.

  5. Compliance with research ethics and copyright requirements.

  6. The final interpretation and conclusions of the research.

The use of AI does not eliminate or reduce authors' responsibility for the submitted work.

11. Authorship Disputes

JKBD is committed to handling authorship-related concerns fairly, objectively, and transparently.

If an authorship dispute arises, the editorial team may:

  1. Request clarification from the corresponding author and other contributors.

  2. Ask for documentation describing individual contributions.

  3. Request written statements from the individuals involved.

  4. Suspend the editorial process while unresolved concerns are assessed.

  5. Refer disputes to the relevant research institution or academic authority when appropriate.

The journal does not act as the primary adjudicator of unresolved disputes over individual contributions.

When an authorship dispute cannot be resolved through communication among the authors, the relevant institution may be requested to conduct an independent investigation.

12. Ethical Approval and Research Accountability

Because JKBD publishes research in nursing and healthcare, authors must ensure that research involving human participants complies with applicable ethical requirements.

Where required, authors must obtain approval from an authorized research ethics committee and secure appropriate informed consent.

Authors must protect participants' privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and personal information.

All authors share responsibility for ensuring that the research is conducted and reported ethically and that any questions regarding research integrity are appropriately addressed.

13. Authorship Declaration

Before submitting a manuscript to JKBD, the corresponding author should confirm that:

  1. All listed authors fulfill the four ICMJE authorship criteria.

  2. All authors have substantially contributed to the research.

  3. All authors have critically reviewed or participated in drafting the manuscript.

  4. All authors have approved the final manuscript.

  5. All authors agree to be accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the research.

  6. The authorship order has been approved by all authors.

  7. Relevant conflicts of interest and funding sources have been disclosed.

  8. Individuals who do not qualify for authorship have been appropriately acknowledged.

  9. The use of AI-assisted technologies has been disclosed when applicable.

  10. No individual has been improperly included or excluded from the authorship list.

14. Policy Compliance

JKBD reserves the right to request authorship declarations, contribution statements, and supporting documentation when concerns regarding authorship arise.

Failure to comply with this policy may result in requests for clarification, manuscript revision, suspension of editorial consideration, or rejection.

For published articles, substantiated authorship concerns may lead to a correction, expression of concern, or other appropriate editorial action under the journal's publication ethics and correction and retraction policies.

The journal will assess each case based on the available evidence and applicable ethical guidance.

15. References and Ethical Guidelines

This Authorship Criteria and Author Contributions Policy is developed in accordance with the principles and recommendations of:

  1. International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals. Updated January 2026.

  2. Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Authorship and Contributorship Guidance.
